Many users prefer the standard Notepad application over any advanced application. Instead of hindering you with complicated features, which you may never use, it provides nothing but basic functions, for typing text and making a few adjustments, which is all you really need if you want to publish something online or if you work with a programming language. Although NoteTab includes a large number of functions, they are well organized, easy to understand and you will actually use them.

Besides the Standard and Pro versions, NoteTab comes in a Light edition as well, which is free, but with less features. The interesting part is that the Pro and Standard versions are included in the same package, so you can buy a single license for both applications.

The interface may consist of numerous options, but typing text with this application will feel just like working with Notepad. It does not include any intrusive features, so your text will stay the way you type it. You may create or open multiple documents on separate tabs, insert special characters or diacritic letters faster and more.

You can bring up different libraries with HTML tags, various code fragments, script commands, smileys and more, by selecting a series of tabs in the lower region of the interface. Any listed item can be inserted by dragging and dropping it on the main editing area. In certain cases, a new window will show up and you will have to select a file or folder or perform other actions, depending on the inserted item. Besides that, the software will detect when you type certain commands or tags and it will display a few options to make your job easier or it will automatically type your tags. It is also possible to convert text to HTML, just by clicking an option on the program's toolbar.

NoteTab's toolbar displays many more options, which can be very helpful in various situations. You can bring up different converters for various measuring units, access the selected font's character map, paste Internet acronyms and more. Another interesting set of options allow you to look up a selected word's definition on your default web browser, find synonyms, look it up on Wikipedia, find it in famous quotes or locate rhymes for that word.

Pros

NoteTab can be used for various purposes, from typing plain text to working with HTML or CSS code. It provides a good number of tools for converting measuring units, looking up a word's definition or synonyms, inserting Internet acronyms and more. It can also detect when you type certain commands and it will help you.

Cons

The free version does not include as many features as the Standard or Pro edition. With its large variety of tools and easy to understand interface, NoteTab can satisfy everyone's needs, from writers to programmers.
